Vol. Sea No. Sick

Happy Fall, Everyone

Home again from the Canadian cruise beginning in Quebec City and navigating the St. Lawrence to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Maine, Boston, Rhode Island, landing in NYC – hope I didn’t leave anyone out. We were at the back of the boat which means when there’s rough water, you get the least bounce for your bucks. Heard 60 percent of passengers on two separate days (nights too) were down in medical to get Dramamine and other assorted feel-good meds to keep from hurling in the staterooms or on the carpeting in the long long hallways or, heavenly powers forbid, one of the dining rooms. We had a butler who kept bringing us food, night and day – all excellent except the try at Mexican with guacamole and salsa and chips, but hey, they’re Canadians. And this is understandable since there are no Mexican restaurants in Quebec City, how about anywhere in Canada? So, if you want to introduce guac to Quebec City, head up north, but remember snow, snow, snow. (Since I live in Sausalito this is beyond my ken except for skiing at Tahoe where snow is appropriate).

We stayed at the Frontenac in Quebec City for three days. If you’re not familiar with this hotel do look it up on your phone/computer. It is truly beyond amazing and I always wanted to stay there. And do you know all I could think about was it’s one hundred years ago and it’s 30 degrees below zero and I have to trudge up from the bottom (old town) to the top where I’m going to be freezing cooking and cleaning for all the rich folk at the main fort and it’s snowing and how in heavens do I even manage to walk to the top without freezing to death or falling and breaking something vital.

While we were there the weather was, alas, cold and rainy, but still – a lovely city, even though it’s one hundred years ago and I’m freezing to death and trudging slowly and carefully uphill and it’s snowing, snowing

Football continues. Alas, San Francisco 49ers team is decimated (if you care), so many injuries to key players, so boo hoo, at least that’s what one of the Baltimore Ravens said.

NBA season started – Alas, the Warriors’ dynasty is over (if you care), no new talent brought on board for this season so it’s going to be a long and painful six months. Is there any joy in Mudville? I’m looking, looking –

Halloween is just over the horizon, hope all of you are magnificently decorated. Yet again I will buy candy with hope in my heart but alas, in my gut I know no kid will show up and I’ll be stuck eating all the goodies (I only buy what I like, so my greed knows too no kids are coming.)

As you might remember, I’m currently finishing a historical romance (with a meaty mystery) and lots of humor and characters who won’t shut up. I’m just now beginning the denouement, yep, very exciting. You’ll be pleased to hear Ryder Sherbrooke is a major minor character --

Don’t forget to carve up a pumpkin. Hey, do you like Baby Ruths?
